mastika

Mastika ( Greek: μαστίχα ) is originally a liquor made from the resin of the mastic tree. This tree grows primarily on the Greek island of Chios in the Aegean Sea.

The word is also widely used in neighboring countries ( e.g. Bulgarian: мастика ) for an anise-flavored liqueur popular in the southern Balkans.
